Our Mission

Our mission is to provide consistent, objective full-cycle economic analysis of energy companies based on actual business execution rather than company representations.

Our research encompasses the breadth of institutionally relevant U.S. energy producers, including those progressing carbon capture and storage (CCS), along with the principal U.S. and European major integrated energy companies. The evolution of our energy research practice contemplates increasing coverage of lower-carbon energy business models.

Comprehensive, objective crude oil and natural gas fundamental analysis is foundational to energy commodity-linked investing. Integral to our energy commodity outlook is rational analysis of market imbalances informed by consistent full-cycle analysis of the breadth of energy producers to assess the industry’s marginal cost of supply.

Gerdes Energy Research

Our energy research approach is premised on analyzing measurable reality.

Energy Research Mission

Consistent, objective full-cycle economic analysis of energy companies based on actual business execution rather than company representations.

Microeconomic Analysis

Analytical framework calibrates actual CAPEX/production relationship to quantify the true capital intensity of a business model. Price targets are based on the NPV of free cash flow applying a supportable WACC (integrates cash flow, balance sheet, income statement).

Macroeconomic Analysis

Global oil/U.S. natural gas outlook informed by full-cycle cost of supply from actual industry business execution. Comprehensive understanding of U.S.-centric cost of supply underpins global crude oil and U.S. natural gas price outlook.
